Lloyd Blackman hailed Ramsgate’s second-half display at Guernsey on Sunday as their best since he joined the club as head coach.
Rams were a goal down after 45 minutes in the Channel Islands but the visitors looked a different side after the restart.
Two goals from Alfie Paxman turned the game on its head and Ollie Gray made it 3-1 before Simon Geall put through his own goal late on.
“The first half wasn’t how we want to play,” Blackman said. “Our ball retention was poor although we could have gone in at half-time all square.
“But, looking back on it, I’m glad we didn’t because we were able to sit down and address it.
“The second half was the most enjoyable time for me as coach to watch that football.
“If I could bottle up everything I want my team to be, it was that 45 minutes. It was absolutely immense - we blew them away.
“From them being in the ascendancy to us producing a display that annihilated them, it was extremely rewarding to see.”
Jake Munday was sent on for Sam Lawford at half-time but it was Ramsgate’s mentality, not just personnel, which changed.
Blackman said: “We had an open and honest chat. There was no finger-pointing or blaming but I wanted to play football.
“I said ‘you can’t be enjoying the way you’re playing so go out there, express yourselves and be creative.
“It was almost like a light switch turned on. Defensively, it was extremely pleasing, as was our energy and our attacking play was very impressive.
“The boys got their rewards for a dominant display.”
Ramsgate’s next two games in Bostik South are both at home to teams challenging for promotion.
They host Corinthian Casuals on Saturday before title-chasing Carshalton come to Southwood on Tuesday.
