Margate fans have reacted with anger and disbelief after the shock resignation of chief executive Ryan Day.
The 25-year-old - who was the country's youngest football CEO- has decided to stand down just three months after replacing Chris Pope in the role at Hartsdown Park.
He broke the news on Twitter on Thursday night, 24 hours before the club's final friendly against Thanet rivals Ramsgate, and just nine days ahead of the new Vanarama National League South season.
Day, a Gate supporter since the age of eight, said he had made the decision with the 'heaviest heart.'
His post went on to say: "People will raise questions but that is not important now, the most important thing is that everyone continues to support MFC moving forward. Thanks for everything it has been a rollercoaster."
He later put out another tweet saying: "Officially unemployed for the first time in nine years."
Neither the club nor Day - who was also the club's media officer - have made any further comment although it is believed a breakdown in his relationship with owner/chairman John Webb is the main reason for his departure. The club's website has been down most of the week.
Gate fans went onto Facebook to make their views known about the situation and Mark Baker spoke for many when he said: "Absolutely devastating news...Massive shoes to fill."
Jake Boyd described it as "seriously awful news" while Darren Stirrups added: "Real shame, top bloke who would always go out of his way to help fans out. Worrying time off the pitch for the club."
Darren Constable said: "I'm worried as we know how much work Ryan took on and worked his socks off, a big void to fill" and Robert Burgon posted: "The only thing to come out of the club this week has been tonight.....can't believe Ryan is going......unbelievable.."
