YOUNG Thanet swimmer Lewis Owens has added to his growing collection of honours. His triumphant year has included winning the 14 years 100m freestyle title at the national championships in Sheffield in August, and being joint top overall points scorer in his age group at this year's Kent county championships.

Now the achievements of the 14-year-old, who lives at Broadstairs, where he attends St George's School, have earned him a BAGCAT (British Age Group Category) award from the Amateur Swimming Association.

The awards are given to swimmers collecting a specified number of points in recognised galas. The former Thanet Vikings member now swims for City of Canterbury, and it was at their Kingsmead Pool base that he received the award from Kay Grimshaw, president of the Kent ASA.
