Kent seniors make it a record-breaking year in tennis for the county

Kent tennis players showed class is permanent with their exploits in the National Seniors County Cup finals.

All four Kent teams triumphed as the seniors added to the county’s three junior national titles achieved this year.

Overall, the total of seven titles beats last year’s record by one and makes it Kent’s most successful year.

The winning teams were: Ladies’ over-55s: Nayla Solh (captain), Keri Jakes, Jo Moore, Gillie Turner, Sue Boffey; Ladies’ over-60s: Jane Gentle (captain), Sally Homes, Hazel Lindfield, Linda McSorley, Caroline Griffiths; Ladies’ over-75s: Janet Broster (captain), Marcia Ackers, Sue Colvin, Judy Maitland, Sarah Pout, Flick Shipton, Margaret Baker; Men’s over-70s: Jonathan Potter (captain), Peter Pharo, Chris Mackenzie, Bob Whitehead, Dave Willan.

Boffey, Griffiths and Baker missed their respective finals through injury and unavailability but played key roles in getting Kent there. Indeed, Baker had won all 10 rubbers en route.
