During Dyslexia Awareness Week, a learning centre in Tonbridge held an open day welcoming people from the community.

Dyslexia Action's Tonbridge Learning Centre in the High Street held the day to provide free advice and information about supporting those with numeracy and literacy difficulties.

Staff at the venue aim to help both children and adults who may need extra support with reading, writing, spelling and other skills.

Shobha Coutinho, principal said: "We were delighted to see so many people at the open day and offer specialist advice to those affected by dyslexia, numeracy and literacy difficulties.

"The learning centre offers a range of assessments to identify if a person is affected by dyslexia as well as offering specialist support and tuition, which can be a real life-line for some people.”

Mrs Coutinho went on to explain that as part of the awareness Week, the charity ran various activities up and down the country to raise awareness of dyslexia, a specific learning difficulty, which primarily affects the ability to learn to read and spell and affects an estimated 1 in 10 people in the UK.
