National Trust reveals best spots for wintry walks including Scotney Castle, Knole Park in Sevenoaks and Sissinghurst Castle

A list of the best places to embark on wintry walks this year has been revealed by the National Trust.

Wrap up warm and entertain visiting friends or family with a bracing walk around a choice of landscaped gardens, naturally rugged outdoor sites and parkland.

A range of the gardens and countryside spaces the National Trust oversees are open from Boxing Day onwards, offering the opportunity for winter walks.

There will be opportunities to experience frost-covered topiary and borders, ice rimmed lakes and windswept beaches befor heading to a tea room for a warming treat.

All the money spent during a visit contributes to the maintenance of the places in the National Trust's care including stately homes, countryside and coast.
