Borough Green students Amelia and Stanley Quantick raise thousands through primary school Race for Life

Two young Borough Green siblings have organised their own Race for Life - involving their entire school - in memory of their Grandmother.
Amelia, 10, and Stanley, 8, Quantick were inspired to hold the event after watching their nan, Eilis Rich, battle skin cancer for nine years.
She sadly passed away last year at the age of 66 and on their own initiative the young students decided to do something in her memory.
The pair approached their head teacher, Karen Sandberg, at Borough Green Primary School to ask if they could organise the race.
After giving a presentation to their student council and a full assembly, they were given permission.
On Friday the school hosted its own version of the well-known Race for Life. Pupils ran laps of the school field to raise funds and the distance varied dependent on their academic year.
Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life is usually a series of women-only events raising money for research into all 200 types of cancer, but this year was the first which enabled people to host their own unique race.
Proud mum, Stephanie of The Avenue in Borough Green, said she was moved by the suggestion. She added: “When my mum was still alive we kept saying we should all do the Race for Life together, but she sadly passed away last year and we never got the chance.
"She battled cancer for so long and because of the work Cancer Research UK do we got her for nine years more than we may have, and the kids now have a wealth of memories. I am extremely proud of both Amelia and Stanley.”
Year 6 pupil, Amelia, added: “My Nana was affected by cancer and we wanted to do something in her memory before I go to Maidstone Grammar School for Girls. I am a good runner so it was fun to do.”
The Borough Green pair have raised just shy of £2,500 so far. The amount is continuing to grow daily.
