A man has been sentenced to six years in prison after he deliberately struck a pedestrian in an Edenbridge car park.

Samuel Talman accelerated in his car, mounted the kerb, and hit the victim, who was thrown over the bonnet.

During the evening of July 20, Mr Talman got into an altercation with a small group before the collision who were walking near the victim.

DC Abbie Brookes, who lead the investigation, said: "It is possible Talman may have confused the victim with being involved in the group he had been in dispute with."

The victim and their friend were walking away from the cash machine when he was struck by Mr Talman's car.

They staggered to a residential area in Doggetts close before calling an ambulance.

Ms Brookes said: "There can be no doubt that he deliberately used his car as a loaded weapon to pursue him."

Mr Talman was found guilty of a charge of wounding with intent.

It was a unanimous decision and he was sentenced on Friday.

The victim was left with facial injuries and several broken vertebrae.

Ms Brookes said: "Talman's actions could easily have had fatal consequences and he has inflicted life changing injuries."

"As well as the lasting scars, the impact of this crime will likely have a significant psychological impact on the victim."
