Student from Judd School, Tonbridge recovering in hospital after being hit in the head by shot put

A schoolboy is recovering in hospital after being hit in the back of a head with a shot put.

The year 9 pupil from Judd School in Tonbridge was knocked unconcious during a PE lesson after being hit by the heavy ball thrown by another student .

An ambulance was called to the school in Brook Street shortly after the incident happened on Friday June 20.

The Judd School will host a concert to celebrate the twinning of Tonbridge and Heusenstamm

The student regained consciousness on the journey to Tunbridge Wells hospital but was transferred to Kings College Hospital.

Headteacher Robert Masters said: "We hope for a full recovery; however all head injuries are serious and we must be patient.

"We are devastated that there should be such an occurrence at The Judd School.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured student and his family, as well as with the student who threw the shot and the teach who was supervising.

"As is normal with a serious incident of this sort the circumstances are subject to an investigation and further details cannot be released at this stage."

The injured student is recovering in hospital following surgery.
