Pensioners got the chance for a purr-fect cuppa along with a cuddle on a day out to a cat cafe.

Animal lovers were able to board a bus in Maidstone and visit some feline friends at the Paws Cat Cafe in Tonbridge as part of an initiative to tackle loneliness.

The trip on Wednesday was the third time organisers Arriva have staged a "talking bus" event but it is the first time it has visited the Tonbridge area.

The initiative was staged in partnership with Age UK and is a way of encouraging animal interaction to combat loneliness.

Following the success of the last event in Maidstone in September last year, the trip gave passengers the opportunity to meet other people on the journey and hopefully form friendships and get out and about in the Tonbridge area.

Senior citizens popped on board the bus at the Chequers Bus Station in Maidstone for the unique trip.

Pensioners with West Kent Befriending Service headed to Paws Cat Cafe on Thursday (7511648)

It was organised with the help of Age UK's West Kent Befriending Service.

Wendy Pfeiffer from the service said: "What we do is arrange a day out for people who do not necessarily need befrending at home from one of our volunteers, but they do like to get out and about, but they don't want to go by themselves.

"So we organise days out such as these."

They were taken to the Paws Cat Cafe and were then able to spent a few hours petting the moggies inside.

They could also have a look around Tonbridge before the bus took them back to Maidstone.
