A school has taken a “significant step forward” after upping its Ofsted rating two years on from being told it “requires improvement”.
The Weald of Kent Grammar School in Tonbridge and Sevenoaks has been given a “good” rating across all areas by Ofsted, after an inspection at the start of October.
Back in 2022, the school had been rated as "requires improvement".
The new inspection praised the school for its inclusive, supportive culture and its commitment to developing confident young people, in an environment where students felt safe and valued.
Inspectors noted the school's consistently high standards across its two campuses and a robust programme of extracurricular activities that fostered both academic and personal growth.
The headmaster Richard Booth, who took charge after the last inspection, said: "We are exceptionally proud of this outcome, which reflects the hard work and dedication of our entire community.
“Our staff's commitment to nurturing every student’s potential has made all the difference and our students continue to impress us with their enthusiasm and resilience.
“They truly are our greatest asset. This ‘good’ rating is a testament to the positive changes we have made together over the past two years."
Chris Eades, the chairman of the board of the school’s trustees, said: "This achievement is a milestone that reflects the unwavering dedication of our staff and their commitment to creating a thriving learning environment.
“The inspectors recognised the cultural shift within our school community, which has strengthened our core values and elevated our standards.
“I am especially proud of the consistent high-quality education offered across both campuses, a direct result of the staff’s teamwork and commitment."
The Ofsted report emphasised the school’s effective teaching practices, its transformed personal, social and health education (PSHE) programme, and its supportive, nurturing atmosphere.
The Ofsted inspectors suggested two areas where the school could make yet more progress.
The attendance of some groups of pupils, including pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), remained lower than their peers. Consequently, these pupils were not achieving as highly as they could.
Also, some elements of the school’s programme for careers information and advice had yet to be fully embedded. As a result, some pupils did not yet feel confident about making the transition to the next stage of their education.

The school has 1,900 students across two sites: at Tudeley Lane in Tonbridge and at Seal Hollow Road in Sevenoaks.
