Residents say a lorry driver “should’ve gone to Specsavers” after the vehicle hit a railway bridge and dropped a container in the road.

The accident blocked Pattenden Lane in Marden, Tonbridge, at around 11.21am today (June 24).

Patrols and Highways officers attended the scene, and the lorry had left prior to their arrival.

Arrangements were made to recover the container and inquiries are underway to identify the driver of the vehicle.

Marden Parish Council said Network Rail has confirmed the bridge is not damaged, and trains have been able to run normally.

The council posted about the incident on Facebook, to which one commenter said: “It's been on the truck backwards so must of been on its way to get filled with scrap metal somewhere at some scrap yard or metal recycling yard.”
