A father says an out-of-date carton of milk sold by Tesco has made his daughter violently ill.

Allan Hobbs, of Hill Crescent in Lenham, bought a carton of long life British whole milk from the Tesco Express store in London Road, Allington, on Tuesday.

After feeding two bottles to his 14-month-old daughter Darcey he realised the best before date was January 12 this year – six weeks ago.

He said: “It shouldn’t happen, I think it’s pretty appalling. It made her really ill.

“She has problems already with her stomach and gets constipated a lot.

“I had to take her to Maidstone Hospital on Wednesday and spent hours there.

“Doctors thought she may have to stay the night or be taken to Tunbridge Wells but she just about got better in time for me to take her home.

“All Tesco have offered me is £10 as a gesture of goodwill. That doesn’t even cover the petrol for taking her to hospital.”

A Tesco spokesman said: “We’re sorry this product was on our shelves and would like to reassure customers the dates on all products in our London Road store have now been thoroughly rechecked.

“Our customer services team has contacted Mr Hobbs to apologise.”
