A Tonbridge man has been banned from drinking or being drunk in any public space in a Kent borough, following a campaign of anti-social behaviour.

The Criminal Behaviour Order was granted against Christopher Lehane, 41, from Hunt Road, at Sevenoaks Magistrates’ Court last Tuesday.

The order, which lasts for three years, prevents Lehane from being drunk or in possession of an open container of alcohol in any public place within Tonbridge and Malling district, other than licensed premises.

He should also not use any abusive or threatening language or behaviour in public which is likely to cause an onlooker harassment, alarm or distress.

The criminal behaviour order was introduced in 2014 as part of the Antisocial Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act, with the intention of providing simpler, more effective powers to tackle antisocial behaviour.

Issued by the courts after a conviction for a criminal offence, it bans an individual from certain activities or places.

PC Rebecca Ballard of the Tonbridge Community Safety Unit said: "Christopher Lehane has come to the attention of officers in the town and district on numerous occasions, often relating to his unacceptable behaviour and has become a familiar face in the town for all the wrong reasons.

"The conditions of this order should help to prevent further incidents happening and I hope that he uses the restrictions in a way to help him to change his lifestyle in a positive manner."
