A 22-year-old man has been taken to hospital after being cut free from a car in a "challenging" rescue near Tonbridge.

The car he was driving is thought to have gone into into a parked car in Brenchley Road, near the primary school, yesterday morning.

It took firefighters more than an hour to free the man, who police say suffered serious leg injuries.

Three fire engines, police, an ambulance and air ambulance crew were called to the scene, close to Brenchley and Matfield Primary School, at about 10am.

It took an hour and 20 minutes to free the driver and crews had to use two sets of specialist hydraulic equipment.

The man was then placed on a spinal long board and passed into the care of the ambulance service.

Once he was freed, he was taken to King's College Hospital in London.

Firefighters left the scene at 11.40am and the road was closed in both directions until 1.50pm.

A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "The rescue was challenging and it took crews an hour and 20 minutes to free the casualty, who was then placed on a spinal long board and passed into the care of the ambulance service and taken to hospital."
