A teenager has been arrested after a three-hour police stand-off in Tonbridge this afternoon in which bricks were thrown from a rooftop.

Police cordoned off part of Quarry Hill Road when a young man was seen on top of a building - with reports a patrol car windscreen had been smashed with a chimney pot.

Now an 18-year-old man has been taken into police custody tonight.

Reports on social media suggest a man had been throwing bricks at police and passers-by.

One even claimed he threw a chimney pot through a police car windscreen.

Officers were called at 2.25pm and remained at the scene until the arrest was made at shortly before 6pm.

Pictures taken by passers-by show a man leaning against a chimney stack during the stand-off.

The A26 Quarry Hill Road was shut in both directions passed the scene, causing queuing traffic.

Police closed the road by the Shell petrol station, between Quarry Rise and Pembury Road/Railway Approach.

A police spokesman said: "There have been reports of objects being thrown."

South East Coast Ambulance Service confirmed two crews were sent to the scene at about 3.30pm.

A spokesman said they were assisting police and had not treated any one.
