Police seek witnesses to house fire in St Mary's Road, Tonbridge

Police investigating a mystery house fire want to talk to two men who helped in the aftermath, including one who rescued a cat from the property.

Seven people fled their homes as the blaze took hold in St Mary's Road, Tonbridge, just after 3am on Sunday, November 26.

It is believed to have started in a garden shed before spreading to two houses.

Ambulance crews were called and five people were treated for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire remains unexplained and police are trying to determine if there were any suspicious circumstances.

It started in the back garden before spreading to the house, leading to extensive structural damage.

Two unknown onlookers spoke to one of the victims after they had escaped the fire.

Detective Constable Chris Relf said: "One of the men even entered the house to help rescue a cat.

"There is no suspicion around either of them being involved in arson, but it is really important that we speak to them as they may have information which can help us establish vital clues as to how this fire started."
