An 18-year-old has written an apology to those she spooked after it was revealed she was the person behind a scary clown mask.

Earlier this month schools in Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells issued warnings after several pupils were approached and followed by a woman donning a halloween-style mask.

As part of her punishment, the woman has been forced to write a letter to be shared with those who were affected.

On October 26 the woman was cautioned by police after having admitted causing a public nuisance in the area on October 8.

Officers reminded parents and children to be on their guard after a number of incidents around the county in the run up to Halloween.

Chief Inspector Dave Pate, Tunbridge Wells Police commander said: "This matter and the subsequent reporting of suspicious incidents to police has taken a great deal of time to resolve.

"It has been necessary to divert police resources to key areas to provide reassurance to our school children travelling to and from school.

"I would ask people, especially with the Halloween period approaching, to consider their behaviour if wearing costumes in public. This is not about spoiling people's fun, but preventing unnecessary distress."
