The weather was atrocious, but more than a hundred human companions let their hounds put their best paws forward at the Tonbridge Dog Show on the weekend.
Timed to coincide with national Love Parks Week, which runs from July 24 to August 2, the fun show also had a serious side.
It promotes responsible dog ownership and encourages owners to help keep the borough’s parks clean and tidy for all to enjoy.
The event also raised funds for The Brain Tumour Trust and All Dogs Rescue. A total of £282.00 was divided equally between the two charities.
On the day, there were two show rings with dogs of all shapes, sizes and breeds taking part in a variety of pedigree and novelty classes, including Gun Dog, Working/Pastoral, Most Appealing Eyes, Fancy Dress, and Waggiest Tail.
Judging continued throughout the day until 4pm when prizes were presented to the winners of each category.
Visitors were offered a host of information on responsible dog ownership and a free dog micro-chipping service was available throughout the day.
The Dog Show, held in Tonbridge Racecourse Sportsground, also helped to promote the Yellow Dog Scheme in Tonbridge and Malling.
This helps to raise awareness of dogs that need space while training, recovering from surgery, or being rehabilitated.
The borough council is asking all responsible dog owners whose dog needs space, to indicate this to others by displaying a simple yellow ribbon, yellow bandana, yellow lead or dog coat.
Likewise, members of the public are asked to avoid approaching dogs wearing the colour.
Cllr Jill Anderson, the council's cabinet member for housing and environment services, says: “Congratulations to everyone who braved the unseasonal weather and took part in the Tonbridge Dog Show, especially those who won a prize on the day.
"It was not just a fun and informative day but also raised money for two deserving charities at the same time.”
