The organisers of a Christmas festival banned from holding future events by the council over a £7,000 debt have broken their silence.
Directors of Castlemas, a festive-themed event which took place at Tonbridge Castle in December, say they are struggling to attract investors, meaning they cannot pay their debts at present.
The 12-day spectacular saw the grounds decked out with numerous stalls, as well as an igloo theatre and a Santa's Grotto.
But Tonbridge and Malling council, whose venue was used to stage the event, last month announced it had not been paid and is still owed £7,000.
Staff also said they were left out of pocket and without communication for weeks after raising the issue with the company.
Now the directors of Castlemas Ltd have posted a statement on the event's Facebook page, explaining the situation.
It said: "Since the beginning of 2023, the directors have been collating the financial information to establish the outcome of Castlemas.
"Unfortunately, the results of the event were disappointing, but this did provide the information to allow the directors to approach potential investors.
"There was a positive response from investors and a rescue package was being pulled together."
It went on to say that those interested parties had since withdrawn, blaming publicity surrounding the debts.
It added: "The directors are now taking further advice to assess the options available and the steps to be taken.
"Further communication will be issued in due course."
A letter sent by Tonbridge and Malling council to Castlemas Ltd on January 30 informed the company it was banned from holding future events on council-held land.
At the time a spokesman for the council said: "We were very disappointed to be notified by Castlemas Ltd that its financial position may mean it is unable to pay its suppliers, including the council, in full.
"We required up front payment for part of the costs of venue hire, car parking and other services and have submitted invoices for the outstanding amounts owed.
"Like others we are awaiting further information from the company."
