Tonbridge Morrisons to welcome Kent’s first super ATM

Kent is set to receive its first “super” ATM.

Tonbridge has been chosen as one of 17 places to launch the machines which allow customers to do more than just draw out cash.

The machines, which are being rolled out across the country now, will make it possible to withdraw funds, access balance, change PIN numbers, and deposit cash from multiple banks without having to enter a building.

The machine is believed to be coming to one of the town’s Morrisons this month but it has not been confirmed which one.

Cash Access chief executive Gareth Oakley said: “Access to deposit-taking ATMs is vital for cash reliant UK consumers struggling to access basic banking services and it’s just as important that businesses who accept cash can bank it too.

“Tonbridge was recommended for a deposit solution and we hope to have this in place in June.”

It comes after an influx of bank closures has left customers unable to access essential services.

Banks already signed up to allow deposits are Bank of Scotland, Barclays, Halifax, Lloyds, NatWest, Royal Bank of Scotland and Ulster Bank and more are set to join up.

The news comes as banks across the country have been shutting their branches.

This year, Tonbridge has been left with just two banks after four others closed, while the post office also shut up shop last year.
