Police investigating a serious assault on a supermarket security guard have released a new image.
The guard was rushed to hospital after being attacked by a suspected shoplifter at Sainsbury’s in the Angel Centre in Tonbridge last month.
He had challenged a man inside the store following suspicions he was trying to steal a number of bottles of spirits.
The suspect is alleged to have used one of the bottles as a weapon and repeatedly beat the victim around the head – with such force that the bottle shattered – before he fled the scene.
Police first issued an appeal for information about the incident – which took place at around 8.40pm on September 28 – last week.
The appeal on October 19 included a CCTV image of a man officers want to identify and speak to in relation to the incident.
Detectives have now recovered further images from a train travelling from Tonbridge to Charing Cross., which show the same man.
It also shows a woman believed to be travelling with him, who police also want to identify.
DC Jo Slevin of West Kent CID said: ‘We know that the man pictured got off the train at London Bridge and we believe he was travelling with a woman, who is also shown.
“It is important we identify them, and we continue to urge anyone who may have information to contact us.’
