A HOTEL has backed down over plans to cash in on the Securitas armed raid by offering themed weekend breaks based on the biggest cash robbery in British history.

The Rose and Crown, Tonbridge, advertised the tour of key sites involved in last month’s heist and abuduction of depot manager Colin Dixon and his wife and young son as part of a £100-a-night package, but shortly afterwards withdrew the offer.

The trail was set to include a visit to the Securitas depot, Vale Road, Tonbridge, where the haul was stolen and other key sites involved in the robbery and discovery of the cash and vehicles.

According to newspaper reports, manager, Richard King, had initially anticipated great demand for the tours but the plans were dropped following negative responses from the public and the police.

Andrew Buckingham, spokesman for Victim Support, said: "I think a lot of people who read about the raid were quite alarmed.

"I think generally speaking there is a perception that bank raids are exciting and daring adventures. They are not. Innocent people get caught up in them, and they get hurt, and they get traumatised. So it is not really fair to make money out of that."

Mr King said: "It is the intention of the hotel to withdraw these tours. We would like to sincerely apologise for any hurt however caused to those involved, their families and the community of Tonbridge."
