POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a robbery at a jeweller's shop in High Street, Tonbridge, in which rings were stolen.

It took place between 4.30 - 4.45pm on Tuesday, just hours after the Princess Royal had been in Tonbridge on an official visit to the nearby Save the Children charity shop.

As the two raiders entered Heasmans Jewellers, one verbally threatened a member of staff while the other snatched rings from a window display.

The robbers then left the shop, going along the High Street in the direction of Shipbourne Road.

No one was hurt during the incident. The value of the items stolen has not been revealed.

One of the robbers is described as white, aged between 27 and 30, and around 5ft 6ins tall. He was wearing a dark coloured hooded top and carrying a square-shaped holdall.

His accomplice is black, aged between 30 and 35, and about 5ft 10ins tall. He was wearing a dark coloured hooded top.

Det Con Richard Pringle, of West Kent CID, said: "At this time of day there would have been people in the High Street, shopping or making their way home. If someone is able to recall seeing these men we would be very pleased to hear from them."
