The Crown Prosecution Service has until Wednesday to decide whether to proceed with the prosecution of a driver accused of causing the death of a Hildenborough man.

Steven Copping, of Byrneside, died after his car was crushed by a lorry that overturned on the A27 between Polegate and Lewes last March.

The driver of the lorry, David Hare, 54 and of Wiltshire, was charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

However, at a trial this week the jury was discharged after failing to reach a verdict.

It means the prosecution now has until the end of Wednesday to decide whether there should be a retrial.

In a statement at the time of Mr Copping's death, his family said: "Steve was the best dad in the world and a devoted loving husband.

"He was funny, friendly and selfless with a massive heart. He was loved by everyone who crossed his path.

"He will be sadly missed by those he loved and those who loved him.

"We feel blessed to have had him in our lives for as long as we did.

"He will never be forgotten. He was our everything."
