A disabled archer preparing to take part in the Paralympic Games 2016 was helped on her way to Rio by a Tonbridge gym.

Tania Nadarajah, 35, who is originally from Kuala Lumpur but is competing as part of TeamGB, shoots at CEDAK (Centre of Excellence for Disability Archery in Kent) based at Valence School, Westerham.

She was given £500 towards kit and flights to Brazil by Alex Shoebridge and Martin Shyvers, directors of The Strength and Conditioning Institute (SCI) in Crabapple Road, Tonbridge.

Right-handed Tania, who has been paraplegic since suffering a spinal cord injury in 2009 and took up archery two-and-a-half years ago, said: “These guys are really passionate about what they do and have a great gym.

"They’re also super lovely people and I’m truly grateful for their support – thanks guys!”

She will compete in both the singles and mixed doubles Open Recurve events, using a bow with ends that curve away from the archer.

Alex and Martin, who met Tania through a friend, said: “It’s an honour and our privilege to support Tania. We are so excited to be able to be a part of her journey to Rio.”
