Colleagues at a Tunbridge Wells supermarket are marking the start of Carers Week with an in-store event today.
The 'Helping Hands' day is about celebrating people in the area who are carers and highlighting organisations providing support across the county.
The team at Sainsbury's, in Linden Park Road, will be showing their support by waving giant foam ‘Helping hands’ in support of the Carers UK campaign.
They will be joined by representatives from Carers FIRST who will run an information stand throughout the day offering advice to customers and colleagues.
Andy Curry, store manager of Sainsbury’s, Tunbridge Wells said: “One in eight people in the UK are carers which means it’s likely that many of our customers and colleagues locally will be juggling caring with other responsibilities.
“We’re proud of the support and advice we offer so it’s important that carers in the area are aware of what’s on their doorstep. We hope the information on offer today and throughout the week will benefit local people now and in the future.”
Heléna Herklots, from Carers UK said: “It’s great that Sainsbury’s is really getting behind this year’s Carers Week and, given that supermarkets play a key role in local communities, working together is a great way to spread the word about the importance of supporting carers.”
Head down to the Tunbridge Wells store at 10am for the launch of Carers Week.
