Two Kent musicians who performed at a local music festival this summer have come a long way since starting their journey.

18-year-old Lana Pitcher, and local group Born to Nothing were among the artists that took to the stage at the Kings Hill Music Festival this month.

They are now both planning their next big challenge, and looking forward to future possibilities.

Lana attends the Weald of Kent in Tonbridge where she has just completed her A Levels.

She has has been singing her entire life and remains passionate about performing, she said: "I generally love music and singing is the one thing that’s always come naturally to me.

"I’ve been doing it since I was little as well, so I feel comfortable in front of an audience."

At the age of nine, Lana, of Pippin Way, performed in the West End's Le Mis and said her part in this well-known piece made her want to continue in the industry.

She added: "I’d auditioned on a one off chance and I’d never done anything like it before so it was an amazing moment when I got the part and I really started to take performing seriously from then on."

Her Mum, Lesley, has watched her grow as a performer, she added: "I am so proud when I watch Lana perform , as is her dad , she is so talented and has all our support in whatever she wants to achieve."

Lana is considering going to University in September if she achieves the required grades, but is finding it hard to move away from music.

She added: "I’m still considering focusing on performing instead because that’s what I really love, but at the moment I’m only really starting out at doing proper gigs."

Born to Nothing formed in 2013 and since then have performed across the county. Band member, Colin Newton, 33, said the biggest struggle for the group has been reaching the appropriate people with their music.

Colin, said: "We found it so difficult reaching the public, with a decline in live music venues and pubs closing down it was difficult getting started, we're on a roll now though."

The band of three released an album this year, and Colin added: "It was such a buzz playing to around 400 people at Kings Hill Music Festival this month, it was our biggest audience yet.

"It was a proud moment seeing people enjoy the songs and music we had written ourselves."

The group is made up of 33-year-old Colin Newton, Matt Omer, 32, and Paul Taylor, 26.

With big plans for the future the band are working hard to keep their audience growing. Matt, added: "For the immediate future we have lot's of festivals and charity events to play.

"Long term we are working on new songs, planning our next album and want to play in as many new venues as possible."

Born to Nothing will be back in Kings Hill at the Rotary Club beer festival on Saturday 30th August.
