Over 100 people have taken part in a walking event to raise money for charities across the county.

Tonbridge Lions Club planned and marshalled a charity walk which started and ended at Shipbourne Village Hall on Sunday.

A total of 122 walkers embarked on either a five or ten mile walk to raise money for their chosen charity.

The shorter route took them via Dunk's Green, Fairlawne Estate, Ightham Mote, Wilmott Cottage, Budd's Green and Shipbourne Church.

The longer route extended to Carter's Hill and Underriver.

The charities keep all the money for themselves and estimates indicate that in excess of £3,500 was raised.

At the finish walkers had their sponsor forms officially “stamped” to show they had completed the walk and Neal Charlesworth, president of Tonbridge Lions Club and his wife Janet, presented each walker with a certificate.

Among the Charities which benefited included The Bridge Trust, Headway, Compaid as well as local Scouts and Beavers.

A number of the Lions member’s ladies and friends also walked and raised over £450 in aid of LIBRA, The Lions International Blood Research Appeal, the only charity in the world that solely raises funds for King’s College Haematology Department in London.

Lion’s spokesman Ken Thomas said: "We are extremely pleased with the way the day went, the weather was good and it was great to see so many taking part and raising money for their chosen charities".
