A MAN who hurled tiles from the rooftops during an eight-hour stand-off with police has been locked up.
Paul Smith, 23, of The Chase, Tonbridge, was arrested last month after his chimney pot protest in College Avenue, Gillingham following a row with his girlfriend.
Police were called to the scene after Smith was seen sitting on top of a garage. As police approached him, he ran off and climbed onto the roof of a nearby house.
Police cordoned off a 200-yard section of the road as trained negotiators tried to coax him down.
But it was more than eight hours before officers finally convinced him to step onto a high platform brought in by Medway Fire Station.
Medway magistrates sentenced Smith, who pleaded guilty to two charges of criminal damage, on Wednesday to serve 120 days behind bars.
