Motorist dies after crash with double decker

A CAR driver has died in hospital after being involved in a collision with a double-decker bus on the A21.

The incident happened on the southbound carriageway near Sevenoaks, about three quarters of a mile before Morleys roundabout. The victim, a man in his 50s, was from the Tonbridge area.

After being in collision with the Scania double-decker he was taken to the Kent and Sussex Hospital at Tunbridge Wells where he died.

Police spokeswoman Anne McCarthy said: "It appears the man had been driving a silver Mazda 6 car that he stopped on the side of the road shortly before the collision happened. There were no other people travelling in the car."

The tragedy happened at about 5.10pm on Wednesday. The road was closed from the junction with the M25 while emergency services attended the incident. It reopened at 9.45pm.

The coroner has been advised and an inquest will be held.
