Police in Tonbridge stopped and searched dozens of people, issued fines and charged one man with drug offences during a crackdown on crime on the weekend.

Local officers took the streets on Saturday, October 11 assisted by volunteers from the Kent Special Constabulary to carry out checks across the town.

A total of 20 people were stopped and searched, with four people being issued fines for rail ticket offences.

A formal warning for cannabis possession was issued and three licensed premises were checked.

A 21-year-old from Sevenoaks was charged with possession to intent to supply cannabis after being arrested in Barden Road.

Sergeant Mark Ginsberg from the community policing team in Tonbridge said: "This operation was very successful and utilised colleagues from across the force such as dog handlers and officers from Tunbridge Wells.

"As well as detecting offences we were also able to glean valuable intelligence around the movements of people who are known to us.

"We are grateful for the support of officers from the Special Constabulary, who gave up their free time to help local police officers keep Tonbridge a safe place to visit."

Officers were patrolling the streets between 4pm and midnight.
