A popular Tonbridge pub will close its doors for good to make way for new flats, and a ground floor office space.

An application to turn The Wharf, on Lyons Crescent, into both residential and commercial units has been approved by the council, and the pub is set to pull its last pint on a bank holiday weekend in May.

The 0.11 hectare site overlooks the River Medway, and the popular drinking spot was advertised online for sale freehold at £1.1 million.

Part of the former hops warehouse is listed, therefore this part of the structure will remain where it is, yet be restored and have five new flats incorporated into it.

The plans state that the modern extension on the east of the building will be demolished to make way for a new 3 storey, part 4 storey, building in same location.

This will see a conversion of the ground floor to create office space and upper floors will become be nine new flats.

Residents will be able to park in a newly refurbished car park, as nine car parking spaces, 16 cycle parking spaces and associated landscaping will crop up outside the front of the building, facing Lyons Crescent.

The pub will cease trading on Sunday May 3.
