Run or Dye, the world’s most colourful 5km, is making a splash in Kent this year with the announcement of its first ever run in the county next month.
By joining efforts, Run or Dye and Hever Castle near Edenbridge, hope to bring community members together for a fun, friendly event on Saturday, October 4.
The run takes place in 150 cities around the world and thousands of participants line up in white running gear, tutus, or dressed head to toe in fancy dress ready to take on the challenge.
This year, over 5000 locals have already signed up for the event.
Duncan Leslie, chief executive at Hever Castle & Gardens, said: “Hever Castle is delighted to be a venue for the colourful ‘Run or Dye’ event on October 4th.
"Having hosted numerous sporting events over the past five years including Britain’s third biggest triathlon, incidentally also the world’s largest children’s triathlon, we feel this will be a perfect end to our season of sports. It is also the ideal opportunity to introduce new families to all the Castle and its grounds have to offer.”
Run or Dye has at least eight events planned this year and more planned for 2015.
As participants walk, run, or dance through the 5km course, volunteers blast them with custom-coloured showers of safe, eco-friendly, plant-based cornstarch dye at a minimum of five Dye Stations.
After they cross the finish line participants can take part in the Run or Dye world-famous Dye Festival where they “Tie-Dye the Sky" with an explosion of colours.
Jake Ackerman, founder and CEO of Viral Events said: “We are thrilled to come to Kent with the Run or Dye series. One of our core values is to give back to every community we partner with.
"To this end, we are speaking to a number of charities with a view to donating a portion of the event’s proceeds. However, if there’s a charity out there that shares our vision we’d love to hear from them.”
