A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man was stabbed in Tonbridge.
The victim, aged in his 20s and from the local area, was attacked at a location in or close to Avebury Avenue, during the early hours of this morning. Kent Police was called just before 1am and officers attended along with ambulance crews.
At 3.40am, a teenage boy from Tonbridge was arrested on suspicion of murder and taken into custody. As part of the investigation police have spoken to a number of potential witnesses, but are appealing to anyone with information to contact them.
Detective Inspector Lee Neiles, of the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, said: "We are working to establish the full circumstances and it is crucial that we speak to anyone who may have heard or seen anything suspicious, around or before 12.55am. The area where the victim was assaulted was close to Tonbridge Park and a large number of residential properties. If you think you may be able to assist the investigation please don’t hesitate to call us."
Businesses along Avebury Avenue, Tonbridge, have been unable to open this morning following the attack and there is a heavy police presence around the town.
There is a heavy police presence in the town, with multiple officers and cordons scattered around the park and green.
Forensic officers and sniffer dogs were spotted in Avebury Avenue, while police were also stationed near Riverside Walk and Holdford Street.
It's thought the investigation will be ongoing throughout the day and possibly into tomorrow.
One man outside a pub near Avebury Avenue said: "It's grim, isn't it? A lad killed at such a young age. We heard about it this morning and police have been here all day."
Kent County Council councillors for the area, Mark Hood and Paul Stepto posted earlier on Facebook: "There has been a very serious incident overnight.
"It has required the closure of Avebury Avenue today while the police investigation continues and their forensic team attends."
It is believed that the nearby Barden Road is being used as a two way road without traffic control which is causing problems.
The councillors added: "This has been raised with Kent Police who have closed several footpaths in the area too."
