There was plenty of wagging tails at a charity Dog Show that raised £200 for The Brain Tumour Charity.

Classes ranging from the 'Most Appealing Eyes' and 'Fancy Dress' to 'Dog Most Like Its Owner' were part of the judging at the Tonbridge Dog Show.

Held at the Tonbridge racecourse sportsground in New Wharf Road, more than 100 dogs and their owners turned up to take part in the event.

Stands were held giving dog-related information and advice with owners also able to get their dog micro-chipped or tagged.

Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council’s cabinet member for environmental services, Cllr Brian Luker said: “What a great turn out of dogs and a fun day out that raised a fantastic amount of money for a very worthwhile cause.”

It was organised by the council and coincided with national Love Parks Week with staff encouraging dog owners to remember to keep the borough’s parks clean and tidy for all.

The show, held on Sunday, July 27, also helped to promote the Yellow Dog Scheme in Tonbridge and Malling which aims to create awareness of dogs that need space while training, recovering from surgery, or being rehabilitated.

The council is asking all responsible dog owners whose dog needs space, to indicate this to others by displaying a simple yellow ribbon, yellow bandana, yellow lead or dogcoat.

Likewise, members of the public are asked to avoid approaching dogs wearing yellow.

Cllr Brian Luker added: “It's important to remember the positive difference dogs make to so many people's lives.

"We urge residents to get behind the Yellow Dogcampaign. The message is clear – don’t say hello to dogs wearing yellow.

"I hope that by encouraging people to give dogs the space, care and respect they deserve, we will be one step closer to a safer community."
