A group of female cricketers has proved that girls can do as well as boys in a recent competition.

The under-13s team from Tonbridge Grammar School survived preliminary heats and a hard-fought final against South Dartmoor to be crowned Chance to Compete Champions 2016 on Monday, September 12.

This competition was introduced by Chance to Shine, a charity that works to promote cricket to children and young people in schools.

In 2011, the organisation was told that secondary schools wanted more competitive opportunities for their up-and-coming cricket players, with state schools being scared to go up against polished private school teams for fear of embarrassment.

The charity set about improving the teaching of cricket to young people, and has enjoyed great success, with many teams now eager to get involved.

James Taylor, a former England player and Chance to Shine ambassador, made a special guest appearance at the event.
