White powder sparks panic at sorting office

A MYSTERIOUS white powder which created panic at a postal sorting office on Saturday could be nothing more than flour.

Emergency services were called to the scene at the sorting office in Vale Road, Tonbridge at around 7.30am when workers discovered powder leaking from a damaged package, and raised the alarm.

The package was contained at the sorting office and an ambulance remained at the scene while firefighters used specialist equipment to carry out tests on the mystery substance.

Police confirmed no one's health had been affected by the powder, which was later confirmed to be harmless.

A police spokesman said: "The powder is believed to be a carbohydrate based substance; it's possibly a weight-gain or muscle building powder."
