Fifteen young cricketers from Tonbridge and Malling received a prestigious Young Leaders in Cricket Award at a special presentation at Lords Cricket Ground.
Mayor of Tonbridge and Malling, Cllr Sasha Luck and leader of the council, Nicholas Heslop, were joined by Kent cricketer Daniel Bell Drummond to present the candidates with their awards.
Other guests at the event, on Sunday, included Jamie Clifford, chief executive of the KCC cricket club, Jane Hannah from the England cricket board and ex county cricketer Will Jefferson.
The event closed with an hour long tour of Lord’s Cricket Ground for young cricket leaders and Mr Heslop assisted the tour guides as chaperone.
The Young Leaders in Cricket Programme is open to people aged between 14 and 16.
It offers a complete training programme to include a Young Leaders Cricket Coaching Award; an introduction to umpiring and scoring; a course in groundsmanship; and training in basic First Aid awareness.
Mayor of Tonbridge and Malling, Cllr Sasha Luck, said: “Many congratulations to all the youngcricketers who have received an award this year.
"This course provides a great opportunity for people to get involved in the coaching and organisational side of cricket as well playing the game itself. We hope that this year’s award winners will go on to inspire other young people to take up the sport and help to boost an interest in cricket locally.”
