Injuries to Andre McCollin and Ugo Udoji take the gloss off Tonbridge Angels' winning start

It’s been a bittersweet start to the season for Tonbridge Angels boss Steve McKimm.

New signing Andre McCollin scored their first goal of the campaign last Saturday but then had his leg broken by a bad tackle.

Tonbridge went on to beat Wingate & Finchley 3-0 at Longmead before winning 2-1 at Burgess Hill on Tuesday.

But defender Ugo Udoji dislocated his shoulder in Sussex, leaving McKimm to contemplate whether or not it had been a good first week.

He said: “Footballing-wise, yes, injury-wise, no. Andre broke his fibula on Saturday so he’s out for a while. He’s had the op and we’ll wait for the rehab on that.

“I reckon it will be months. That wasn’t good because he was looking sharp in his first game.

“The bloke went through the back of him and broke his fibula so I’m not happy with that.

“Ugo dislocated his shoulder at Burgess Hill so we’ve not had the best of luck but we’ve had two good performances and two good wins.

“The gloss has been taken off by the injuries but the performances have been good.”

Tonbridge make the long trip to Lowestoft on Saturday before welcoming Harrow to Longmead on Tuesday.
