Steve McKimm wants to give Tonbridge fans something to shout about at fellow strugglers Hampton after a "boring" FA Cup defeat.

D'Sean Theobalds gave Angels an early lead in Saturday's second qualifying round tie but they lost 2-1 after goals from ex-Tonbridge winger Nick Wheeler and Elliott Romain.

It angered boss McKimm, who felt certain players didn't take on the importance of the game.

He said: "It wasn't a typical FA Cup tie in terms of cut and thrust. It was a very boring game and we were on the wrong end of it.

"It wasn't good enough in terms of passion and every other cliche in the FA Cup.

"It was there for us and we let it slip through our grasp.

"It wasn't a lack of effort, I just think the magnitude of the game wasn't grasped.

"It's nothing to do with the money, although that's handy for the club, it's the chance to win a few games and get yourselves on telly.

"We had a clear-the-air meeting on Tuesday, a chance to blow a few cobwebs away and hear a few home truths on both sides, players and staff."

Attention turns to a big game at the foot of National League South this Saturday, with Angels travelling to bottom side Hampton.

McKimm's team are just a point and two places better off and the manager would love to get a result for Tonbridge supporters.

He said: "The fans have been fantastic, home and away, and we need to start repaying them with some results.

"We got a bit of flak at times last season, and I'm sure we will this season, but from what they've given us at the start of this season, we need to give them something to cheer about on a regular basis and we're working hard to do that.

"It's the 12th game of the season and we can't keep saying, 'I know we've got no points today but there's load of games left'.

"We have to start picking up points now - that's a fact.

"I can't sit here and foresee the future and where we'll end up.

"For now, all we can do is concentrate solely on Hampton.

"The table doesn't lie but I think they're in a false position.

"They've just signed three experienced players in Charlie Wassmer, Sam Cox and Dan Lincoln who will help their spine and they have a lively front three."

Midfielder Jack Rudoni is set for his first league appearance after joining on a month's loan from AFC Wimbledon.

He was the one bright spark in Angels' FA Cup exit.

McKimm said: "We've got him for a month to start with and unless they get a load of injuries and call him back, I'm sure we'll be able to extend it, as long as he's happy.

"He's a first-team player at Wimbledon. He's been on the bench a few times and played in the Carabao Cup."
