Tonbridge boss Steve McKimm praised his players after they won for a third consecutive game.
McKimm’s side moved up to second in the Ryman League Premier Division after striker Luke Blewden scored both goals in a 2-0 success against Farnborough at Longmead last Saturday.
Blewden was at it again on Tuesday night, scoring his fourth goal in three games with the late winner as Tonbridge sent Margate crashing out of the Kent Senior Cup after a 2-1 win at Hartsdown Park.
McKimm said: “Everybody put a shift in at Margate – they all deserve plenty of credit. The game was a chance for some of the lads to put their hands up to impress me and they did.”
An own goal by Sam Rents had given Tonbridge the lead in the second half before the hosts drew level, but Blewden netted the winner seven minutes from time with his 11th goal of the season.
McKimm made seven changes to the side that beat Farnborough, a result that underlined their return to form in the Premier Division
He said: “We needed to get back to winning ways after the disappointment of our FA Cup exit sooner rather than later. I will take three wins from three games any time.”
Tonbridge are not in action this weekend. They are scheduled to play Hastings in the League Cup at Longmead on Tuesday, but that is dependent on Hastings not being taken to an FA Cup replay.
