Steve McKimm admitted it wasn’t pretty but he was happy with the three points as Tonbridge got back to winning ways in the Ryman League, Premier Division at Lewes on Wednesday.

Striker Luke Blewden’s 43rd-minute goal proved to be the difference and it was enough to move Angels up to third.

Blewden’s match-winner came after Nick Wheeler’s cross wasn’t cleared and he slotted home from 10 yards.

The win was Tonbridge’s first in three games following defeats to Leiston in the league and in the FA Cup last Saturday.

While McKimm was happy with a win, the same can’t be said for the performance.

He said: “You could say that it wasn’t the best we’ve played this season and that’s being kind. We made it hard for ourselves and that should not have been the case.

“We kept giving the ball away far too easily and often. We had enough chances, especially in the final 20 minutes, to put it to bed.

“I’ll be the first to admit that it wasn’t at all pretty but a win is a win and I will take the three points and move on.”

Angels host fourth-bottom Farnborough at Longmead tomorrow (Saturday) before heading to Margate on Tuesday in the Kent Senior Cup.

McKimm will use the Margate game to give other players the chance to impress.

He said: “It’s a great chance to let some of the reserves have a run so I can have a good look at them. Those on the comeback trail after injury will also feature.”
