Tonbridge can go top of the Ryman League, Premier Division this weekend but manager Steve McKimm insists that’s not in his thoughts.

If second-placed Angels get a better result than leaders Dulwich on Saturday, they’ll go above them with two games in hand.

Victory over Burgess Hill at Longmead would also extend Tonbridge’s unbeaten run to six matches but with the season not yet halfway through, McKimm isn’t getting excited.

He said: “We could have gone top last Saturday and could have gone top on Tuesday.

“That’s not in my mind, I’am not interested in that. We’ll catch up on our games and have a look then, see where we are and judge ourselves.

“If I put pressure on the players about going top of the league, that’s when everyone wants to beat you.”

Tonbridge came from behind to draw 1-1 at Billericay last Saturday thanks to a Tom Parkinson strike.

They repeated the trick on Tuesday, when Nathan Elder scored to earn them a point at Staines, who had led early in the second half.

McKimm added: “I’m pleased. They were two difficult games against completely different types of opposition and we had to adapt.

“The boys have put us in a position where we’re second in the league and we can look forward.”
