Steve McKimm hailed Tonbridge's character after they beat Kent rivals Dartford on Tuesday night.

Angels won 3-2 at Longmead with Darts bosses Jamie Coyle and Adam Flanagan leaving by mutual consent after the game.

McKimm said: "We let ourselves down in the last derby against Welling massively.

"The boys took on board what we asked them to do. They worked hard, used the ball well, took our chances when they came along – everything we wanted.

"They made the odd mistake, which is going to happen as we’re still learning against good, experienced players.

"The character was there to go 2-1 up straight after conceding the goal. That’s happened to us twice, against Welling and Havant, when we’ve conceded straight after scoring. It was a great time to score.

"They changed their system at half-time and we just needed to take a bit more care of the ball. It could have been more if we’d looked after the ball better. We thoroughly deserved it."

Joe Turner scored twice for Tonbridge, with Tom Derry netting the winner five minutes from time.

McKimm said: "We could have won 4-0 or 1-0 but a derby win is massive for us. I know we haven’t beaten them for a few years but we deserved that one.

"We knew that they were down on their luck so we wanted to get at them early and we did that.

"Four points over two home games for a new club that’s come up and has been written off, I’m very happy with that.

"A week in football changes things quickly and we’ve just taken four points.

"It’s a hard game for us on Saturday (away to Chippenham) and if we can get a positive result there then it’s been a good week for us."
