Tonbridge claimed their second win of the National League 1 season - and their first in more than two months - with a 12-10 victory over fellow strugglers Plymouth Albion.

The hosts failed to score a try but Tom White's four penalties proved enough to end a run of seven straight defeats, and although Judds are still bottom of the standings they closed the gap on next-from-bottom Albion to two points.

Plymouth travelled with some excellent support and played with the strong wind in the opening half, but failed to make it count. Instead, White was accurate from the tee to Tonbridge on the scoreboard first.

Judds then had a man extra for 10 minutes when Albion skipper George Mills was sin-binned. They could not make the numerical advantage count, though, and instead the teams changed ends level thanks to a late first-half Plymouth penalty.

White added two more penalties after the restart as Tonbridge took control once more, kicking to the corners, but Plymouth's second-row became more and more pivotal and with 15 minutes left, Dan Pullinger crashed over with Connor Eastgate kicking the extras to give them a 10-9 lead.

The minutes that remained were spent largely in the Plymouth half as TJs denied all exit attempts or returned the clearance kicks straight back. The Plymouth rearguard was finally breached with a fourth White penalty in the 71st minute.

The margin of victory could have been greater, but another penalty attempt drifted wide in the wintry conditions.
