Tonbridge boss Jay Saunders says some of the money being spent in non-league football is scary.
Angels remain on the look-out for a left-back, having missed out on a couple of targets.
It’s a challenging transfer market but National South Angels will stick to their guns.
“There’s lots of money flying about this season, at all levels,” said Saunders. “It’s really competitive out there and we’ve got to make sure we get the right player without paying too much.
“I’ve always been the same. Unless you’re at a club where you can throw money about as you want, you’ve got to be sensible with it and I’m really pleased with the business we’ve done.
“Even down to Isthmian South, it’s scary the amount of money clubs are paying. I think most managers would tell you there’s clubs at that level paying more than we do and other clubs do at our level.
“What that does is create a knock-on effect for everybody else.
“If clubs are over-paying at that level, it makes it an unrealistic market.
“I’ve got no issue with that, if clubs can afford it and can sustain it.
“What disappoints me is when clubs do it who really can’t sustain it and then you hear rumours of players not being paid.
“If you can afford it, and sustain it, fair play. Good luck to them.
“We’re sensible with our money, we’ve signed good players within our budget and I’m very happy with where we’re at.
“I think we started last pre-season with nine players and we’ve got 16 signed on this year, so I’m quite comfortable with where we’re at, and we’ll pick up one or two along the way.”
