Tonbridge Angels have made two new signings as they continue to prepare for life in National League South.
Deals for Tommy Brewer and Alex Bentley were completed on Tuesday to the delight of manager Steve McKimm.
Having lost centre-half Arthur Lee and midfielder Adem Ramadan, he was quick to act in the transfer market.
McKimm said: “We need a squad this year that’s going to be bigger than what we had last year.
“They’ve got experience, they’ve played at this level before and they’re the right age, both 27, which I think is experienced enough.
“It’s a tough old league we’re going into and they fit the bill for what we want.
“We’ve had chats with them and they’re looking forward to the challenge next year a well as I am.
“Tommy Brewer’s coming in as a centre midfielder and he can also play centre-half. He’s tenacious and good on the ball, which will compliment what we’ve got in midfield already.
“He’s a strong tackling midfielder which you need in that league and he knows it because he’s played in it before so he’ll be a welcome addition.”
Brewer’s previous clubs include Hampton & Richmond and Kingstonian while Bentley is a former Hornchurch player.
McKimm said: “Alex can play full-back or in midfield. Both of them are versatile, which we’re going to need this season because although we’ll have a bigger squad, it won’t be as big as some.
“They’re there to help fill positions as well as everyone else. There’s competition in place for everybody, which is what I want.
“They’re both good lads and they’ll both fit into what we’re all about as a club.
“When you’re a manager, you look at certain players and think what they’re about and would they fit for you?
“Both of them fit our club like a glove. They’re hard-working, dedicated, they’re winners, they give 100% and that’s all you can ask.
“They’ve got quality as well and they’ll be welcome additions to the squad we’ve got signed up so far.
“With others thinking about offers, hopefully they’ll sign up as well and we’ll have a strong squad going into the season.”
James Folkes and Sonny Miles have agreed new deals at Longmead but Lee will be playing elsewhere next season.
That leaves three members of Angels' promotion-winning squad who are still considering offers.
McKimm said: "Arthur said to me that he wouldn't be re-signing.
"You've only got to hazard a guess that he's got another club because he's such a good player - he won't be short of offers.
"We wish him all the best, like we do with every player that leaves us. He's been part of a successful side last year, winning something unique in terms of the super play-off and that will never be taken away from him.
"From the heartache of the season before, to go and win it, he's over the moon. I don't begrudge anyone if they're offered a better deal somewhere else, a substantial amount if that's the case, I'm not sure.
"It's like all of them. Adem's decided to go. They all got offered a deal - whether it was the right deal for them or not, only they can decide because of their work commitments and other bits and pieces.
"They were all going to get offered a deal and it was their choice whether they took it or not. I'd like to have kept everyone together and added to it but two have gone.
"No player has left our football club, while I've been manager, that's had a bad word to say against us as a management team or a club.
"People change clubs for reasons and that's personal, it's not to go out there in the press.
"Whatever player leaves us, they go with our best wishes because they served us well and they've been good for us while they've been with us.
"Why should you speak bad of them because they've decided to take a different route? I'd never do that unless someone upset us and I think it's the right way to be.
"When one door shuts, another one opens and you can't look at it any other way."
