Tonbridge’s improvement is there in black and white for manager Steve McKimm.
Angels have suffered back-to-back defeats - by Hungerford and Oxford City - since starting the National South season with victory at Billericay.
But they’re still better off than at this stage last season and that says everything as far as McKimm is concerned.
“We were beaten by the better side, we didn’t deserve anything,” said McKimm, after the 4-0 defeat at Oxford City on Saturday.
“But we’re three games into the season - nothing’s won and lost.
“This time last year we’d lost our first three, so we’ve improved on that.
“People look at the teams we’ve lost to but I believe it’s disrespectful to say they’re going to be in the bottom half, because no one knows at this stage.
“Oxford are a good side and Hungerford are a good side - every team in this division is a good side in their right.
“I believe - although I’ve not done it myself - that people may have looked at our form at the end of last season and the start we had against Billericay and started running away with themselves thinking we’re going to win every game.
“My aim is to do better than last season and after three games we’ve got more points than we did last year. In my eyes, that’s improvement.
“If we continue to work hard and improve on what we did last year, we’ll be a National South club again next season.”
