Walton & Hersham 1 Tonbridge 1 (Walton won 3-2 on pens)
TONBRIDGE ANGELS were dumped out the FA Trophy by Ryman Division One side Walton & Hersham after losing their 3rd round replay on penalties.
The home side kept their nerve to win the shoot-out 3-2 after the sides could not be separated after 120 minutes.
As on Saturday, Angels went ahead early when Danny Lye darted in front of the keeper to nod home Anthony Hogg's 13th minute free kick. But Walton hit back on 54 minutes through Tristan Frontin to force extra time.
On a windy night and bumpy pitch, chances were at a premium and neither side were able to break the deadlock in the extra period.
Danny Lye blazed Angels' first penalty over, before Gareth Street's kick was saved. Tony Dolby and John Farley scored but Craig Roser missed to end the club's best ever run in the competition.
Dolby said: "We shouldn't have even been there. We had enough chances to win on Saturday and we had enough about us to win the game.
"We've done better in the FA Cup and Trophy than for a long time so I'm not expecting too bad a reaction from the fans. We gave our all in both games and in the end it came down to a lottery that we lost."
Tonbridge also lost out on the £4,000 prize money for 3rd round winners and a possible £5,000 had they successfully negotiated a 4th round tie with the Southern Premier's bottom side Stamford.
Now they must turn their attention back to league survival, starting away to Cheshunt on Saturday, to whom they lost 6-1 at home in September.
